Responsibilities include securing the courthouse, serving civil processes, and managing prisoner transports and perform routine law enforcement tasks, once certified. Applicants must complete department training and graduate from the academy. Interested individuals should submit an online application to be considered for testing.<\/p>\n<p>You are not permitted to test unless invited by Deputy Sheila Jones via email or phone prior to testing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Arrive 15 minutes prior to testing. Tardiness will disqualify you from testing<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Bring your valid driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Dress appropriately<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">You are not allowed to possess cellphones, smart watches and any device that access the internet in the courthouse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The testing process consists of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Written Exam<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Lawfit Assessment<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Background investigation<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Polygraph<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Psychological test<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Medical Examination<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Conditional Offer<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Oral review board<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Interview with the Sheriff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>If you are hired, you will attend the\u00a0<strong>April 2026<\/strong> or <strong>July 2026<\/strong>\u00a0Law Enforcement Basic class at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy.\u00a0 Testing for candidates can also form an eligibility list for future vacancies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day of Testing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">\n<strong>Be punctual.<\/strong>\u00a0 You will not be accepted after the scheduled testing time. Testing will be held at the Fredericksburg Sheriff\u2019s Office, 701 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">\n<strong>Be prepared.<\/strong>\u00a0Review testing materials\/videos on website. Bring your valid driver\u2019s license.\u00a0 All other testing materials will be provided.\u00a0 Bring water and snacks.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">\n<strong>Dress appropriately.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Arrive at the testing site in fitness attire and athletic shoes. Upon successful completion of the written test, you will immediately attempt the physical test. Please plan for at least two hours for written testing and four hours to complete the physical agility testing.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Unauthorized backpacks, bags, cell phones, smart watches or other electronic devices that access the internet are not permitted.\u00a0 Leave these items in your vehicle.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Study materials are available at your expense:\u00a0<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.applytoserve.com\/Study\/\"><strong><u>https:\/\/www.ApplyToServe.com\/Study\/<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimum Requirement for deputy positions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">21 years of age by the completion of the law enforcement basic academy<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">United States Citizen<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Possess a valid driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">High School Diploma or GED<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">No more than two moving violations in the last two years<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">No convictions of DUI, eluding, or leaving the scene of an accident in the last 5 years<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">No record of two or more DUI\u2019 s<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">No Driver\u2019s License revocation or suspension in the last 5 years<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">No convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanors involving moral turpitude<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Not convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to any misdemeanor sex offense including sexual battery or consensual intercourse with a minor 15 or older<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">No convictions, pleas of guilty or no contest to any offense of domestic battery<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">You must undergo a background investigation including fingerprint based criminal history records<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Undergo a physical examination before the conditional offer of employment<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:center\">Must have a negative result on pre-employment drug screening<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Come be part of a knowledgeable and dedicated work team committed to excellence in serving a thriving and growing community and the commitment to\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fredericksburgva.gov\/1400\/City-Values\"><u>City\u2019s Core Values.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0The City is a member of the Virginia Retirement System and offers competitive health, dental and vision insurance as well as generous vacation\/sick leave benefits and 13 paid holidays a year.<\/p>\n<p>Position is open until filled; completed City Applications should be submitted to Human Resources.
