We do this by fostering developmental relationships that support youth and families through:<\/p>\n<p>Enrichment activities<\/p>\n<p>Academic support and tutoring<\/p>\n<p>Mentoring<\/p>\n<p>Mental health and life-skills support<\/p>\n<p>Community capacity building<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AmeriCorps members serve in direct service roles such as tutors, mentors, outreach workers, and community organizers, averaging 36\u201340 hours per week.<\/p>\n<p>Members live in intentional community housing with fellow AmeriCorps members, sharing responsibilities related to cooking, cleaning, and finances.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Members are also encouraged to spend 10% of their service hours supporting service activities outside of their primary placement.<\/p>\n<p>Through service, members often become active in local clubs, faith communities, support groups, and Sitka\u2019s tribal community\u2014learning firsthand about the joys and challenges of rural Alaskan life.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ABOUT Serve Alaska AND AmeriCorps<\/p>\n<p>Serve Alaska promotes and supports volunteerism statewide and administers AmeriCorps programs throughout Alaska. Serve Alaska is overseen by a Governor-appointed Commission and operates under the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Community and Regional Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>AmeriCorps is a federal agency that brings people together to address critical community challenges through national service. Learn more at AmeriCorps.gov.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>POSITION SUMMARY<\/p>\n<p>Sitka AmeriCorps members serve across a variety of partner host sites, including:<\/p>\n<p>Academic\/SEL coaching and mentoring with the Sitka School District<\/p>\n<p>Healthy futures and mental health support through local nonprofit organizations such as SEARHC, Youth Advocates of Sitka and Sitka Counseling<\/p>\n<p>Service at Alaska Marine Safety Association<\/p>\n<p>Service in recreation and academic\/SEL support with Mt. Edgecumbe State Run Boarding High School.<\/p>\n<p>Service in the Arts<\/p>\n<p>Service at the University of Alaska Southeast.<\/p>\n<p>And more!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>POSITION SUPERVISION<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Lawrie<br \/>Program Director, Sitka AmeriCorps Program<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n<p>Bachelor\u2019s degree preferred (social services, education, or related field strongly encouraged)<\/p>\n<p>Ability to follow oral and written instructions<\/p>\n<p>Ability to maintain confidentiality<\/p>\n<p>Ability to meet schedules and deadlines<\/p>\n<p>Ability to read, interpret, and apply rules and procedures<\/p>\n<p>Ability to withstand inclement weather<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n<p>At least 17 years of age at the start of service<\/p>\n<p>High school diploma or equivalent<\/p>\n<p>U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident<\/p>\n<p><i>Successful completion of a National Criminal History Check in accordance with 45 CFR \u00a72522.202<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>TERM OF SERVICE<\/p>\n<p>Full-time, 10-12-month commitment<\/p>\n<p>1,700 and 1,200 terms<\/p>\n<p>Service schedule averages 36\u201340 hours per week<\/p>\n<p>Sufficient opportunity provided to complete hours, including holidays and approved time off<\/p>\n<p>Members dedicate 5\u201310 hours to recruitment support for Sitka AmeriCorps<\/p>\n<p>Opportunity to serve a second year, including a second Education Award\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>PROGRAM TIME REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n<p>Participation in three mandatory national days of service:<\/p>\n<p>Monthly mandatory individual and group meetings<\/p>\n<p>Attendance at an all-member meeting in hosted by Serve Alaska typically in March\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Training hours comply with 45 CFR \u00a72520.50<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ORIENTATION AND TRAINING<\/p>\n<p>Program orientation upon arrival covering AmeriCorps, Sitka AmeriCorps, and life in Sitka<\/p>\n<p>Monthly cohort-based team-building and training sessions<\/p>\n<p>Monthly individual support meetings with Program Director<\/p>\n<p>Weekly or regular mentoring meetings with host site supervisors<\/p>\n<p>Site-specific training and professional development provided by host organizations<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SKILLS YOU COULD GAIN<\/p>\n<p>Classroom management<\/p>\n<p>Behavior
