{"id":17002,"date":"2026-05-28T15:20:35","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/georgies-farm-market\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T15:20:35","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:20:35","slug":"georgies-farm-market","status":"publish","type":"ch_job","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/georgies-farm-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgie\u2019s Farm Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE:\u00a0<\/strong>Although this posting may display a longer availability window on Handshake due to system requirements, <strong>applications for this internship must be submitted by June 12th.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Description:<\/strong>\u00a0<br \/>Georgie\u2019s Farm Market is a fresh food market at a walkable location in the heart of the Belkap and Creston neighborhoods.\u00a0 Not only does Georgie\u2019s sell healthy food, it is a community resilience hub, providing support services for physical, mental and financial health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Importance to Public Health<\/strong>:\u00a0<br \/>Georgie\u2019s Farm Market directly addresses needs identified in Kent County Health Department\u2019s Community Health Needs Assessment as well as Calvin College\u2019s 7-year neighborhood needs assessment.\u00a0 Both indicated that food access and mental health were areas of high need.\u00a0 The Greater Grocery Project of the University of Michigan in 2021 also assessed the neighborhoods as suffering from food apartheid.\u00a0Statistics indicate that mental health issues continue to increase in number for all age groups and that suicide is on the rise in Grand Rapids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project Deliverables<\/strong>:<br \/>We are requesting a Fellow to focus on boosting awareness and engagement with Georgie\u2019s nutritional offerings as well as the social supports it provides (cooking classes, fitness classes, nutrition classes, financial literacy classes, blood pressure checks, et al).\u00a0 We anticipate the need for intense social media marketing, hard copy distribution, a community poster blitz, representation of these programs at community events, promotion at organizations and businesses, and researching future funding opportunities.
