Hands On Atlanta\u2019s AmeriCorps program is a <strong>10-month commitment<\/strong> where members serve <strong>in elementary, middle, and high schools<\/strong>. Over the 10-month period (August-May), members <strong>serve full-time<\/strong> and receive a <strong>semi-monthly living stipend<\/strong> and an education award once their service term is complete.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>Major areas of responsibility as a Full-Time AmeriCorps Teaching Assistant include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist small groups of students at an elementary or middle school with the goal of growing students\u2019 proficiency in ELA and\/or math.<\/li>\n<li>Analyze student progress through maintaining detailed and accurate records of tutoring sessions. Submit timely progress reports of student data. Support teachers and school administrators by assisting students, co-planning lessons, leading learning activities, and participating in school events.<\/li>\n<li>Foster meaningful and productive relationships with students, teachers, school officials, and parents.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate tasks and manage volunteers during national and local days of service, including MLK Day and Hands On Atlanta Day.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in AmeriCorps trainings and development days.<\/li>\n<li>Be an engaged member of the Hands On Atlanta AmeriCorps cohort and a service leader at your host school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><br \/>In order to be eligible to serve as a full-time Hands On Atlanta AmeriCorps member, you must meet these eligibility requirements at the start of service.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commit to completing 1,700 hours of full-time service over 10 months<\/li>\n<li>Have a high school diploma<\/li>\n<li>Education\/childcare experience\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Some college preferred<\/li>\n<li>Able to clear state and federal background checks<\/li>\n<li>Able to clear a NSOPW check<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Nationals or Lawful Permanent Residents of the U.S.<\/li>\n<li>Reliable transportation as AmeriCorps members work on-site in schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits:<\/strong><br \/>Full-time members will receive a <strong>living stipend of $2,200 per month and an education award of $7,395<\/strong> after successfully completing the 1,700 hours of service. Members also receive <strong>health, dental, and vision insurance<\/strong> at <strong>no cost to the member.\u00a0<\/strong>AmeriCorps members, if eligible, are encouraged to apply for food benefits (SNAP\/EBT) while they are in service. Members may apply for loan forbearance on federal loans that qualify.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All members receive extensive, ongoing training to support their development, including mentorship from Hands On Atlanta staff and corporate and community leaders; community building activities; robust educational and professional development training.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recruitment Process:<\/strong><br \/>The application process is on a rolling basis March-August 2026. This is a highly competitive opportunity and space is limited. We encourage applicants to apply early. \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accepted applicants will participate in our phone screening process<\/li>\n<li>Then, you\u2019ll be invited to a virtual networking round<\/li>\n<li>AmeriCorps requires a separate online application you\u2019ll complete before your final interview and site placement match interview\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>After a successful match has been made, you\u2019ll be invited to join the 2026-2027 AmeriCorps cohort\n<p>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This position is an AmeriCorps service position. It is considered &#8220;service&#8221; and members are considered &#8220;service members&#8221; rather than &#8220;employees.&#8221; As such, the compensation is a stipend\/living allowance rather than salary.
