{"id":106854,"date":"2026-09-18T19:22:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T19:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/corrections-officer-5\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T08:30:27","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T12:30:27","slug":"corrections-officer-5","status":"publish","type":"ch_job","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/corrections-officer-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Corrections Officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<strong>\u00a0Portage County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/strong>\u00a0has a current <strong>Corrections Officer<\/strong> vacancy and in addition, is\u00a0also\u00a0opening up\u00a0a 6 month eligibility list for future vacancies.<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking qualified, motivated, professional people interested in a career serving the citizens of Portage County. \u00a0If you are interested in becoming a member of a progressive, community-oriented Sheriff\u2019s Office, the Portage County Sheriff\u2019s Office may be right for you!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0This position has a 7 on \/\u00a07 off work schedule!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>2026\u00a0starting pay is $26.23\u00a0per hour<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the primary job responsibilities?<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supervises inmates and maintains\u00a0security of Jail and Juvenile Detention Center<\/li>\n<li>First line inmate grievance mediator<\/li>\n<li>Completion of initial mental health screenings<\/li>\n<li>Assists in the transport of prisoners to and from facilities, courts and medical\/mental treatment facilities<\/li>\n<li>Dispense medication and assist nurse with medical visits<\/li>\n<li>Provides mental and physical triage to inmates<\/li>\n<li>Maintain required data, complete necessary forms and document behavioral problems<\/li>\n<li>Photograph and fingerprint inmates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0 <strong>These are the skills we are seeking:<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school diploma or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Prior corrections experience preferred.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional requirements include:<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid Wisconsin Driver&#8217;s License<\/li>\n<li>No felony convictions unless pardoned by the Governor<\/li>\n<li>Must be 18 years of age or older and a U.S. Citizen<\/li>\n<li>Must meet and maintain recruitment and eligibility criteria established by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board of Jailers<\/li>\n<li>Must satisfactorily complete all required training\u00a0and pass background check (within one year of employment,\u00a0<u>we will provide\u00a0<\/u>the 200-hour Corrections Academy at MSTC for you to be certified by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Portage County offers a\u00a0GREAT\u00a0benefit package, which includes the following;<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vacation &#8211;
