{"id":103961,"date":"2026-06-09T14:46:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T14:46:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/veterinary-technician\/"},"modified":"2026-10-05T08:25:41","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T12:25:41","slug":"veterinary-technician","status":"publish","type":"ch_job","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/veterinary-technician\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterinary Technician"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Animal Resource Center is located at 4848 State Route 30 in House Springs, MO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This position works Monday through Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Please complete the online application found at www.jeffcomo.org\u00a0 Resumes are accepted as supplemental information only and will not be used as a substitute for the application, you must complete the application in full.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>JOB SUMMARY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Veterinary Technician<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assists, under the supervision of the offsite contracted veterinarian, with providing medical care, preventive treatments, and monitoring of animals while ensuring sanitary and safe shelter conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Animal Health Assessment: Conduct intake exams and evaluate animals for illness, injury, or abnormalities.<\/li>\n<li>Medical Treatment Administration: Administer vaccinations, medications, and parasite prevention as prescribed.<\/li>\n<li>Medical Recordkeeping: Document treatments, test results, and veterinary instructions accurately in ShelterNet.<\/li>\n<li>Diagnostic Testing: Perform and process diagnostic tests such as fecal exams and heartworm testing.<\/li>\n<li>Inventory Control: Maintain stock of medications and medical supplies and report low inventory.<\/li>\n<li>Veterinary Coordination: Arrange and manage medical care for animals with\u00a0 on offsite veterinarian to provide onsite care.<\/li>\n<li>Shelter Animal Monitoring: Observe animals for signs of illness or distress and report changes promptly.<\/li>\n<li>Sanitation and Safety: Maintain clean, sanitary, and safe working conditions in all animal areas.<\/li>\n<li>Public Communication: Assist with adoption counseling and provide medical history information to adopters.<\/li>\n<li>Training and Development: Stay current on best practices in animal health, handling, and shelter medicine.<\/li>\n<li>The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team&#8217;s efforts by completing other related tasks, as may be assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Requirements<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE \u2013 The following are the minimum education and experience required for the position. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Associates (Related Field)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 year previous relevant work experience is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Special Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be able to control, lift and carry large animals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Training Requisites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Certifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Registered Veterinary Technician license in the state of Missouri, CE to maintain licensure in the state of Missouri (5 credits yearly).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Licensing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must possess a valid State Driver&#8217;s License.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SUCCESS FRAMEWORK. The following list of knowledge, skills, and abilities have been identified by our team as building blocks towards efficiency and effectiveness in this role.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Skill in conducting animal physical exams and health assessments.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of disease prevention, sanitation, and infection control.<\/li>\n<li>Skill in collecting biological samples for diagnostic testing.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work with animals that demonstraet a range of temperaments.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of animal nutrition and husbandry standards.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to maintain accurate medical and inventory records.<\/li>\n<li>Skill in handling and restraining animals safely and humanely.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of ShelterNet or similar medical record software.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate effectively with veterinarians and staff.<\/li>\n<li>Skill in recognizing signs of illness, injury, or distress in animals.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of controlled substance handling and reporting requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to educate shelter staff on animal health and safety protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Strong compassion, empathy, and attention to detail in animal care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vaccines; PPE; syringes\/needles; stethoscope; ophthalmoscope\/otoscope; leashes\/muzzles; scales; microchip scanner; treatment carts; autoclave; Shelter software; Microsoft 365; grooming tools; nail trimmers; clippers; microscope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WORK ENVIRONMENT or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clinical\/shelter environment;
