Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Independent Living Skills Trainer to support individuals with developmental disabilities in developing practical skills for daily life. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in special education, behavioral health, and community care, with a passion for fostering independence and enhancing quality of life. Title: Independent Living Skills Trainer – Waiver Services
Reports to: Program Coordinator – Independent Living Skills Waiver Services
Overview of Responsibilities and Duties:
The ILST provides person-centered, direct independent living skills training in the homes of participants or in community settings.
MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE WORKING DIRECTLY WITH INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM AND/OR INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES!
Primary Responsibilities and Specific Duties:
· Provide person-centered independent living skills training to waiver participants in the areas of communication skills, community living and mobility, interpersonal skills, reduction/elimination of problem behavior, self-care, and sensory/motor development involved in acquiring functional skills.
· Provide training to participants on the safe and effective use of public and community transportation options, including buses, rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft, and other transit resources.
· Complete assessments for each assigned participant.
· Follow each participant’s Plan of Care with minimal supervision.
· Collect data and enter service notes into Therap.
· Create and maintain professional relationships with families, program participants, and community partners.
· Attend all EOS meetings as required
· Demonstrate all SOS Care Core Values
· Other duties as assigned.
SOS Care Expectations: The ILST is expected to adhere to established policies and procedures as presented to staff during the Relias training period and as written in the SOS Care Policy Manual, including Dress Code Policy and Time Off/Leave Policy. Must maintain open communication with all team members on a regular basis and report problems or issues to your supervisor in a timely fashion. ILST will be reviewed periodically and in turn, an annual assessment of performance will be completed to review and discuss competency of responsibilities and duties as listed.
Qualifications: Independent Living Skills Trainer – Waiver Services must be at least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must meet the requirements of all criminal background checks. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must have references from past employment. Must obtain CPR/FA certification. A general understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder/Intellectual disabilities is important in understanding the goals and mission of the organization and must have at least one year experience working with target population. Patience, attention to detail, and excellent communication, both written and orally, are essential.
