The Department of Public Service (Department) Office of Rates and Tariffs (ORT) Intern (Intern) will contribute to developing and implementing policies and practices needed to ensure electric, gas, steam, and water utilities’ rates and charges are just and reasonable.
ORT is responsible for analyzing and recommending resolutions to issues related to the rates and charges, and to the rules and requirements contained in utility tariffs for six major electric utilities, nine major gas utilities, two major water utilities, one major steam utility, approximately 40 small municipal electric utilities, eight small gas utilities, and over 230 small water utilities.
ORT is also responsible for developing and/or providing analysis of initiatives and programs to enable achievement of clean energy goals associated with the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA), which adopts the most ambitious climate and clean energy legislation in the country.
Applicants should be enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program and possess the following:

Duties Description:
Interns will perform duties in ORT under the supervision and direction of a Utility Engineering Specialist (UES) 1 or UES 2. The Intern will participate in rate proceedings, analyze company records, review tariff filings, examine cost allocations and rate design, evaluate supply planning, analyze depreciation studies, evaluate mergers and acquisitions, and investigate system operations and planning.

Salary: Undergraduate Interns earn $19.10 per hour
Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week.
Office Location: 3 Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York.
Remote Work: A hybrid work schedule may be possible.
