Career Development Workshops on Demand

The Office of Career Development is available for virtual workshops on-demand. Contact the office at careerdevelopment@monmouth.edu with requests.

Career Development offers workshops on-demand to better accommodate students’ needs and scheduling priorities. Below is the list of available workshops and their presenters.

Any student, student club or campus organization can request that a workshop be presented to their group, or individually. Workshops usually run between 30 – 45 minutes, with extra time allotted for questions and answers at their conclusion. Faculty are also invited to schedule workshops for their classes. Workshops can be scheduled anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, subject to staff availability.

Dress for Success 

You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.  What you wear to an interview can make a big difference in how an employer decides if you are the right person for the job. What dress is appropriate for full-time job interviews? Internships? Summer jobs? What is business casual dress? This workshop will explain the best way to make a great impression with your appearance on an interview or in the workplace.

How to Prepare For a Career Fair

This workshop will help you develop realistic goals for attending a career fair, provide you with information about the intention of a career fair, and help you plan, achieve, and follow through on your career fair experience to maximize the benefits of the event.

LinkedIn Basics  

LinkedIn is a professional social network and job search tool that has grown to over 100 million members since 2003. It can be an effective instrument in building your professional network. This workshop will cover the following topics: profile setup, creating your network, introductions, recommendations, people search, and job postings.

Resume 101 

A resume is often the first contact an employer has with a job applicant. A good resume can make the difference between winning an interview or being passed over for consideration. Whether you already have a resume or are just starting to write one, this workshop will provide you with a step-by-step process for creating an effective and persuasive resume needed to get you noticed.

Resume Red Flags  

Don’t underestimate how much power your resume has in shaping the hiring process. How you are perceived by a potential employer is largely dependent on the information you provide on your resume. Learn about these “red flags” that could get you passed over for an interview. In fact, you may not even be aware these mistakes are on the resume. This workshop will concentrate on those findings and addressing those resume errors that can slow down your success.

What Employers Look For in a Candidate 

What makes a good candidate? Learn what employers look for when reviewing resumes and interviewing college students for internships and full-time jobs. Discover what can you say or do that will increase your chances of landing a job.

Your First 100 Days on the Job

You just graduated, and are starting your new full-time job next week. Congratulations! But are you anxious about making a good impression as you start your new career?  Learn what you can do to survive and thrive in this new environment. Learn how to adapt to the new culture of the workplace in your first few months on the job.
