{"id":386,"date":"2018-05-01T16:04:14","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T20:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/business-school\/student-resources\/seema\/about-the-leon-hess-business-school-mentoring-program\/"},"modified":"2023-08-31T10:06:41","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T14:06:41","slug":"about-the-leon-hess-business-school-mentoring-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/business-school\/student-resources\/mentoring\/about-the-leon-hess-business-school-mentoring-program\/","title":{"rendered":"About the Executive Mentoring Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"goal\">Goal<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>To help prepare students for life after Monmouth through mentoring activities.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"objectives\">Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"disc\">\n<li>Guide and assist students in the interview process and resume development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase awareness of opportunities that benefit students professionally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help students develop their interpersonal, leadership, communication and team building skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote self-confidence as embodied in the mentor\/mentee professional relationship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn how to transform knowledge and skills from the classroom to the business world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage students socially and professionally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"activities\">Activities<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"disc\">\n<li>Mandatory information session (mentees)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engagement activities include: resume development; interviewing processes; shadowing; career planning; and networking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentoring through phone conversation, email, Skype, LinkedIn or face-to-face<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentor\/mentee monthly on-campus meeting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reception to formally recognize the mentors for their effort and involvement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"expected-outcomes\">Expected Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"disc\">\n<li>Gain competencies in the following areas: resume\/cover letter development and mastery of interview skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve self-confidence in social and business environments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhance access to career opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop leadership skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establish competitive advantage in the business world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhance students\u2019 job preparedness in the professional job market<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mentors\">Mentors<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"disc\">\n<li>Critically determine that you have the commitment to follow through the mentoring process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage your mentee to communicate openly. Open communications usually lead to creating a relaxed relationship between mentee and mentor. Such encouragement will later build the trust that is needed to promote effective mentoring activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate student progress using the assessment tool provided by the Executive Mentoring Program coordinator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mentees\">Mentees<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"disc\">\n<li>Your mentor will be sharing known opportunities that are relevant to your career. Learn to listen and ask questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Share with your mentor your goals and objectives for your career. Be ready to ask advice on your goals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask for feedback<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate and respond promptly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be on time with commitments or meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be courteous.
