{"id":8485,"date":"2023-03-08T11:35:39","date_gmt":"2023-03-08T16:35:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/business-council\/?page_id=8485"},"modified":"2024-12-20T14:58:14","modified_gmt":"2024-12-20T19:58:14","slug":"curriculum-advancement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/business-council\/curriculum-advancement\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum Advancement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Maintaining a market relevant academic structure at the undergraduate and graduate levels is essential for students to acquire the knowledge and skills that differentiate them in a competitive job market and set them up for early professional success.&nbsp; The accelerated pace of change in today\u2019s business environment coupled with lasting change resulting from the pandemic is driving a whole new set of desired skills and the need to modernize curriculum.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2022, an integrated team of business school department chairs, administration governance, and a committee from the Business Council assembled to assess market needs, draft recommendations and lay out a phased implementation plan.&nbsp; The first phase of the program focused on the \u201ccore business curriculum\u201d required of all business students regardless of concentration.&nbsp; Future phases will address the opportunity to update concentration specific course offerings and propose potential new concentrations.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-case-for-change\">The Case For Change<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Key business trends are driving radical changes in the roles, skills and competencies companies need to compete effectively.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The accelerated pace of business change is expected to continue demanding organizational agility which is driving increased use of interdisciplinary teams and higher importance of soft skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An initiative to review and refresh the LHBS programs and curriculum was initiated in June with an integrated team of academic leaders and practicing business professionals from the Business Council.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-curriculum-advancement-team\">The Curriculum Advancement Team<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"faculty-leadership\">Faculty Leadership<\/h3>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"department-chairs\">Department Chairs<\/h4>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Joe McManus &#8211; Data Analytics<\/strong> skills by providing more opportunities for exposure to key concepts throughout the program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enhance Communications skills overall <\/strong>by providing more opportunities for students (in all courses) to speak up, synthesize and summarize information, and create and deliver presentations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increase Real World Experience\/Experiential Learning <\/strong>by supporting more internships for credit, recruiting Strategic Management professor for capstone case studies, and business council partnership in classroom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Certification Programs<\/strong>: Investigate adding certification programs in areas like Accounting with new CPA requirements, Project Management, Operations Management, and Human Resources<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"top-changes-for-graduate-program\">Top Changes For Graduate Program<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>1.<strong>Reduce barriers to entry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Address barriers to Entry &#8211; Reduce credit requirements for non- business undergraduates <\/strong>(from 57 to 36-42 credits)&nbsp; to align with market and attract more students from other majors. Aligned with Mid-Atlantic Conference Feedback and benchmark<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increase flexibility and remote support to expand student demographics <\/strong>and attract more&nbsp; business&nbsp; professionals in the program (majority are 4+1 students)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enhance Career Opportunities for MBAs<\/strong> through targeted job placement, internships, case&nbsp;&nbsp; studies, and project work.
