• Welcome from the Office of Veteran Services

Choosing the right university is an important decision. Let me tell you why you should consider choosing us. Monmouth University has been selected by Victory Media (formerly G.I. Jobs) as a Military Friendly School for 2014, which places us in the top 15% of all schools nationwide. Our Military Bridge Program assures (in most cases) a probationary semester to veterans through our Office of Admission. Also, in addition to your V/A educational benefits, if you are chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill), and receive 100% of possible funding, you may apply for a Yellow Ribbon scholarship on a first come, first served basis through our Financial Aid Office. The Yellow Ribbon Program enables institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with V/A to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and V/A will match the amount. Why are we so military friendly? Because you’re worth it!

The Veteran’s Association was formed by a group of students who set the goal of promoting growth, understanding, awareness and charity for all veterans attending Monmouth University. The association meets every other week, and I serve as their advisor. Our purpose is to continue to advance programs here and to be advocates for all veteran students who study at this great university. We also have a mentorship program, where new veteran students can be sponsored and mentored by junior or senior veteran students. This program is designed to assist with the unique transition from the military to life as a student.

As a retired first sergeant, I want to assure you of one thing. Monmouth understands that your life experience is different than most students who attend here. You’ve been a difference-maker and a part of the most technologically advanced enlisted force in the world. You are focused and serious about the decision you are making. This office, the Office of Veterans' Services, was created to provide a point of contact for the distinctive needs of our veteran students. Whatever your educational goals are, I am here to help you meet them.

If you are not convinced that you want to attend Monmouth, just visit our campus. The atmosphere is both prestigious and serene. Whether you choose to study here or somewhere else, we offer you sincere thanks for your service, and wish you the very best in your educational pursuits. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 732-263-5258 or by sending e-mail to jhood@monmouth.edu. Thank you for considering Monmouth University! I hope to see you soon!

    Sincerely,
Jeff Hood, Coordinator of Veteran Services
