Monmouth faculty, staff, and students volunteer their time, talents, and treasure to make West Long Branch and surrounding communities an even better place to live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a title=\"Big Event\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/sga\/the-big-event\/\">Big Event<\/a> &#8211; Whether it\u2019s seeing our students volunteer in a soup kitchen or spending a day with senior citizens, painting a house or raking a yard, hundreds of Monmouth students volunteer in the community each October through the Big Event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a title=\"Community Speakers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/about\/speaker-listing\/\">Community Speakers<\/a> &#8211; Does your community organization or school need a speaker for an upcoming meeting? Monmouth has numerous individuals who can speak on a variety of topics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a title=\"Institute for Global Understanding\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/igu\/\">Institute for Global Understanding<\/a> &#8211; With the help of community members, the Institute for Global Understanding promotes various issues and challenges that are happening throughout the world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/community-garden\/\">Monmouth University Community Garden<\/a> &#8211; Sponsored by the School of Social Work, the community garden provides a place for individuals to come together to grow produce for the betterment of the community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a title=\"Sustainability Advisory Council\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/sustainability-advisory-council\/\">Sustainability Advisory Council<\/a> &#8211; Teaming together as a community, this group promotes environmental awareness through education and outreach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a title=\"Urban Coast Institute\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/\">Urban Coast Institute<\/a> &#8211; With a focus on interactions between humans and the environment, the Urban Coast Institute researches, educates, and collaborates with the community to support the stewardship of healthy, productive, and resilient coastal ecosystems and communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"moving-forward-after-hurricane-sandy\">Moving Forward After Hurricane Sandy<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Adopting a local family in need. Rebuilding a house with Habitat for Humanity. Providing psychological counseling to area residents.
