The Department of Psychology Has Courses that Challenge and Inspire

Within our major, all students take rigorous courses in foundational topics such as Child/Adolescent Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Social Psychology. Our students also take a unique research methods sequence that helps them cultivate a range of marketable skills and culminates in each student conducting and presenting their own thesis. Students also have 44 elective credits that empower them to explore all of the areas of psychology that interest them. For example, here are some of the courses we offer: Theories of Personality, School Psychology, Sensation & Perception, Memory & Cognition, Psychology of Learning, Introduction to Neurosciences, Tests & Measurements, Psychology of Women, Evolutionary Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Children’s Play, Animal Behavior, Intimate Relationships, and Introduction to Clinical Psychology.

Personalized Attention through Small Class Sizes

Our small class sizes ensure that your professor will know your name and you won’t get lost in the crowd. All courses in the department have 35 students or fewer. Courses in our research sequence have even lower enrollments to allow for even more personalized attention. When you take upper level courses like thesis, our internship course, or Introduction to Clinical Psychology, you will be in a class of no more than 15 students.

Professors Who Are Experts

Our faculty are not only great teachers, but they are also active scholars who conduct research on fascinating topics like what influences tipping, how children think about princesses and superheroes, how culture influences children’s play, and how sense of self influences romantic relationships, just to name a few. Our faculty have been quoted in numerous popular press outlets such as: The New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post, USA Today, Huffington Post, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, The Asbury Park Press, The Philadelphia Inquirer, WebMD, Glamour Magazine, Ladies’ Home Journal, and Cosmopolitan.

This program really pushes you to meet your potential and helps you go above and beyond the abilities that you thought you had. This is a tough program but completing it is an amazing feeling and showed me that I really can overcome any challenges that are in front of me.
