HAWKS FALL IN HOME OPENER TO SETON HALL

West Long Branch, N.J. – The Monmouth University Hawks fell in their home opener to Seton Hall, 71-61 in women’s collegiate basketball action on Thursday in Boylan Gym.  The Pirates (4-1) had four players score in double-figures and were led by Cecilia Lindqvist, who tallied 18 points. The Hawks (2-3)were led by Michelle Cappadona’s (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Seton Hall built a 41-27 advantage at the half behind 52.9% shooting from the field.  Monmouth was only able to produce on 32.1%, which led to the Pirate lead.  Lindqvist, who would leave the game in the second half with an injury, scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the opening stanza, on 5-10 shooting from the floor.   Jewonda Bright (Norfolk, Va./Norview) led Monmouth at the break with 10 points, but left the game with a badly sprained ankle at the start of the second half.  Bright finished with 10 points and two rebounds, while LaToya Thompson (Orange, N.J./Orange) posted 13 points for the Hawks.

Cappadona led the charge for the Hawks in the second, as she posted eight points.  At 19:13 left in the second, the Pirates had built a 16-point cushion over Monmouth, but Seton Hall turned the ball over five times in the next five minutes, allowing the Hawks to climb back in the game.  Monmouth cut the lead to five at 8:01, but was unable to get any closer, as poor field goal shooting hurt the Hawks.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, December 1 when they open NEC action against Fairleigh Dickinson University in a 3 p.m. contest at Boylan Gym.
