MONMOUTH MEN’S TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER RIDER

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s men’s tennis team opened the season with a 6-1 victory over Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J., on Wednesday.

Monmouth was led by Chad Long and Nick Dargene who tallied staight-set victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively. Long registered a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Chris Ulmer and Dargene defeated John Phillips, 7-5, 6-0. Mike Kreig, Mike Miller and Chris Doyle each won key three-set singles matches for the Hawks.

Monmouth swept the doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Long and Andrew Katz were victorious at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win over Ulmer and Phillips.

The Hawks continue their fall schedule Saturday as they host Delaware State in a noon contest at the Monmouth University Tennis Center.
