MONMOUTH MEN’S TENNIS OPENS SPRING SEASON WITH WIN OVER CCSU

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s men’s tennis squad opened its spring season with a 4-3 victory over Central Connecticut State Saturday afternoon in New Britain, Connecticut.

The win improved Monmouth’s record to 5-2 on the season, including a 2-0 ledger vs. league competition. Central Connecticut State fell to 0-7 on the season.

Chad Long led the Monmouth assault as he posted a 6-0, 7-5 victory over CCSU’s Chris Markowski in No. 1 singles. Long teamed with Ali Gilak to post an 8-6 victory over Markowski and Nathan Gaudreau in No. 1 doubles.

The Hawks’s Nick Dargene also tallied a pair of wins as he was triumphant over Joe Lanzle in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, and teamed with Steve Barlow to post an 8-2 win over Zach Githens and Tim Knowles in No. 2 doubles. Andrew Katz also picked up a pair of wins for Monmouth as he pounded Githens, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles and joined Chris Doyle to defeat Brian Shapiro and Lanzle in No. 3 doubles, 9-7.

Monmouth returns to action on Thursday, February 22, as the Hawks travel to Jersey City, N.J., for a 3 p.m. contest at St. Peter’s College.
