MONMOUTH FALLS TO QUINNIPIAC
West Long Branch, N.J. – The Monmouth University men’s soccer squad took on Quinnipiac University in collegiate soccer action this afternoon in West Long Branch and fell to the Braves, 4-1, behind Everson Maciel’s two goals for Quinnipiac. The Hawks and Braves played a scoreless first half that saw a total of 13 shots.
Maciel opened the scoring at 55:32 as he received a pass from Alyrio Howard and banked the ball off the far post. Howard then scored a goal three minutes later on a lead pass from Alex de Faria. Maciel and de Faria hooked up in the 74th minute to extend the Quinnipiac lead to 3-0. The Braves scored their final goal at 76:56 when Paul Dworak deposited the ball in the net past Monmouth goalkeeper Frank Gullace (Brick, N.J./St. Rose). The assist went to Doug Domingues.
Nick Randazzo (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland) posted the lone score for the Hawks as he maneuvered past a defender with a pass from Mike Parshelunis (Brick, N.J./St. Rose) and scored past the Quinnipiac netminder, Kevin Kelly.
Monmouth out-shot the Braves 17-16 in the match, forcing Kelly to make eight saves. Gullace made five saves of his own.
Monmouth returns to action on Sunday October 21 when they host Central
Connecticut State University in a 2 p.m. match. The contests will
mark the final game on the Great Lawn for the Hawks’ senior class, which
include Parshleunis and Ryan Weid.
