PENALTY KICK GOAL LIFTS FDU OVER MONMOUTH
West Long Branch, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson’s Orce Kozeski (Garfield, N.J/Garfield) capitalized on a penalty kick three minutes into the first overtime to lift the Knights to a 2-1 decision over Monmouth University in men’s soccer action this afternoon. The win evens FDU’s record at 5-5, 2-2 in the NEC, while the Hawks fall to 3-6, 1-2 in the NEC.
Monmouth opened the scoring in the 32nd minute as Anthony Viscariello (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton Prep) headed in a Joe Sellitto (Raritan, N.J./Raritan) pass off of a free kick. The Hawks carried the 1-0 lead through halftime.
Kozeski scored tied the score for the Knights in the 65th minute, as he headed in a cross from Joe DiBuono (Montreal, Canada/Ecole Secondaire Vaudreuic).
A trip in the penalty box set up the penalty shot in overtime, which Kozeski fired passed Mike Erskine (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) to secure the win. Erskine faced 24 shots on the afternoon, making four saves. FDU’s Vytautas Lenkutis (Vilnius, Lithuania/Gabijos) faced eight Monmouth shots, making one save.
Monmouth returns to action on October 5 when they travel to Robert Morris
to take on the Colonials in Moon Township, Pa. Match time is set
for 4 p.m.
