LINDQUIST’S FOUR GOALS PACES HAWKS TO WIN
West Long Branch, N.J. – Craig Lindquist (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) tied a school record with four goals in one game, as he led the Monmouth Hawks to a 4-0 Northeast Conference victory over Mount St. Mary’s this afternoon. The Hawks were outshot by The Mount 23-15, and allowed 13 Mountaineer corner kicks.
Monmouth opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Anthony Viscariello (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton Prep) launched a shot that rebounded to Lindquist off of the Mountaineer’s goal keeper, Brian Crum (Frederick, Md./Walkersville). Viscariello is credited with the assist.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the half, but exploded for two more goals in the first seven minutes of the second half, as Lindquist netted a pass from Joe Sellitto (Raritan, N.J./Raritan) at 48:26 and another from Mike Hull (Pine Beach, N.J./Monsignor Donovan)) in the 53rd minute.
Lindquist put his name in the record books in the 86th minute as he received a cross from Hull and notched his fourth score of the match. The junior ties Joni Kallioinen’s feat from 1991 against Robert Morris.
Mike Erskine (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) notched another win in the net for Monmouth, making 13 saves. His counterpart, Crum, made six saves.
With the victory, Monmouth improves its record to 3-4-0, and evens its conference ledger at 1-1.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 26 as they travel
to the University of Delaware for a 7 p.m. match against the Blue Hens.
