WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University outscored Wagner 9-1 in the second half en route to a 14-4 victory in women’s collegiate lacrosse action at Kessler Field Friday afternoon in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

Monmouth (7-5, 4-0 NEC) was led by All-American Heather Bryan who registered a season-high five goals in the triumph.

Bryan drew first blood 1:52 into the contest as she scored on a free possession goal. Wagner (6-2, 1-2 NEC) responded quickly with a pair of goals to take the lead as Kelly McVeigh found the net with 24:33 remaining in the first half and Krissie Fischer scored on an assist from Jill Pyzik just over five minutes later.

With 15:26 remaining in the first half, Monmouth started a scoring spree that would result in three goals over the next 42 seconds. Lisa Cherill started the run, scoring an equalizer on an assist from Stephenie LaGrossa. Bryan gathered the ensuing draw and 34 seconds later she hit the back of the net and Monmouth reclaimed the lead. Bryan gathered another draw and scored just eight seconds later to give Monmouth a 4-2 advantage. Each of the teams added a goal before the intermission and Monmouth went into halftime with a 5-3 lead.

Any thoughts of a Wagner comeback smothered early in the second half as the Hawks scored three goals in the first 3:35 to take an 8-3 lead. Cherill scored an unassisted goal with 28:35 left on the clock. Once again, Bryan took control of the draw and scored an unassisted goal 17 second later. With 26:25 remaining in the game, Bryan added her fifth goal of the contest on an assist from Jess Salvesen.

The Seahawks’ Pam Sobieski did her best Heather Bryan impression as she gathered the next draw and scored an unassisted goal 16 seconds later to trim the lead to 8-4.

The offensive arsenal of Heather Bryan was supplemented by freshman Laura Levins who tallied three goals in the final 10 minutes of play. Salvesen tallied two goals and five assists. Sydlo added two goals and an assist and Cherill booked a pair of goals.

Fischer led the Wagner assault with two goals. Sobieski and McVeigh each recorded one goal.

Monmouth’s Stacy Makris picked up the victory in goal as she logged eight saves in her 60 minutes of play.

Monmouth returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 as the Hawks travel to Washington, D.C., for a 3:30 p.m. contest at American University.
