Entering her fifth season at the
helm of the Hawks, head coach Monica Morgan Levy is leading Monmouth toward
the top of the class in the Northeast Conference and the East Coast. Morgan
Levy has started to earn recognition for her coaching exploits, earning
NEC Coach of the Year honors each of the last two seasons.
Since the program’s inaugural year in 1997, Morgan Levy has steadily improved the quality of play. In the first season, she won four games with a squad that featured 30 freshmen. In 1998, the Hawks faced a tougher schedule and the result was a four-win season that included six losses by just one goal. The Hawks also boasted four players on the All-Northeast Conference team, the most by any league member. Morgan Levy raised the bar once again in 1999 as her squad went 8-11 and participated in the Northeast Conference championship game, losing to Quinnipiac by a slim 1-0 margin. In 2000, the Hawks continued to make strides under Coach Morgan Levy. She guided Monmouth to an 11-9 mark, becoming just the second team in NEC history to post a winning record. The 11 wins also established a new league record. Despite the succcess which led to a 9-1 NEC record and the regular season crown, Monmouth fell short, losing to upstart Rider 1-0 in the NEC semifinal game. Arriving in the fall of 1996 to start building the field hockey team from the ground up, Morgan Levy also served as an assistant lacrosse coach for the Hawks during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Morgan Levy, who owns a career record of 27-42-1, arrived at Monmouth after spending three seasons as an assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at the University of Delaware. She helped both squads earn national rankings during her tenure from 1993 to 1996. During her stint at the Newark, Del., campus Morgan Levy earned a master’s degree in American history. Morgan Levy was a two-sport standout at Lafayette College. A four-year starter in both field hockey and lacrosse, Morgan Levy earned All-Patriot honors in both sports and was also named to the regional All-American team in field hockey as a senior. A 1993 graduate of Lafayette, she served as team captain on both squads during her career. As a sophomore, she helped guide the Leopards to an NCAA tournament appearance in lacrosse. Morgan Levy, a native of Newark, Del., is a graduate of Tower Hill School. She and her husband, Adam reside in Monmouth Beach. |
