MONMOUTH POSTPONES ALL ATHLETIC CONTESTS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.  – Monmouth University has postponed all of its athletics events scheduled for this weekend, Athletics Director Marilyn McNeil announced late Wednesday night. Due to the acts of terrorism committed upon the United States of America, all athletic events have been postponed through Sunday.

The football team was scheduled to host Robert Morris on Saturday. The men's soccer team was scheduled to host George Washington on Sunday. The women’s tennis team was to host Marist and St. Joseph’s on Saturday and Sunday. Men’s and women’s golf, field hockey and women’s soccer all had road events scheduled. Men’s golf was planning on participating in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., and the women’s team was headed to the Bryant College Invitational in Rhode Island. The field hockey team had games scheduled for Friday at Towson and Sunday at Georgetown. Women’s soccer had conference games at St. Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris.

“In light of recent events, out of the respect for American lives and the safety of our student-athletes we feel that it is best that we suspend our operations this weekend,” McNeil said. “It is a good time for our student-athletes to reflect on what has happened.”

All of those events have been postponed.  No make-up dates have been scheduled.

Monmouth is scheduled to resume competition on Monday afternoon when the tennis team hosts Lafayette at 3:30 p.m.
