First Season
George Washington '97
Monmouth Assistant
Coach Lisa Cermignano begins her first year on the Hawks sideline.
Cermignano, who originally hails from Mt. Royal, NJ, will play a key role
in many aspects of the Hawks program, including backcourt development,
recruiting and daily practice sessions. Her New Jersey connections,
which are well established, should prove quite useful in recruiting.
Cermignano
comes to Monmouth from the University of Maryland, where she spent one
year as an assistant coach.
Cermignano,
who earned a criminal justice degree from George Washington University
in 1997, is one of the more accomplished players in Colonials history.
She helped the Washington, D.C. school to four NCAA Tournament appearances,
including a "Sweet 16" appearance in 1995 and an "Elite Eight" appearance
in 1996. The two-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection was a
three-year starter and team tri-captain in 1996-97. After her senior
season, Cermignano was named South Jersey Basketball Club's College Player
of the Year. She holds numerous school three-point shooting records,
including three's made in a season (87) and career (270). The forward
finished her career with 1,278 points. All told, G.W. posted an impressive
103-27 record during her four years.
Cermignano,
who currently resides in Mt. Royal, was a standout performer at Gloucester
Catholic High School in Gloucester City, NJ. She finished her career
with 2,063 points and was named Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year
in 1993.
