MONMOUTH HARRIER TEAMS PLACE SECOND AT HEXAGONAL MEET
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's and women's cross country squads both finished in second place at the MU Cross Country Hexagonal at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, N.J., Friday evening.
Monmouth's women finished with 49 points to finish behind meet winner Lehigh University who tallied 23 points. The Hawks men's squad also finished second with 32 points behind Lehigh with 27 points.
The MU women's harriers wee paced by sophomore Tara Losito, who covered the 5,000-meter course in 19:26. Amala Merritt was the next Hawk to cross the finish line. Merrit clocked in at 19:50 to finish in seventh place. Taryn Phelps placed eighth with a time of 20:07. Kim Wolozen finished in 14th place with a time of 20:28.
The Hawks' men were led by freshman Brian Hoffman. Hoffman placed second, covering the 8,000-meter course in 27:07. Fellow freshman Nick Pellegrino placed fifth with at time of 27:40. Junior Brad Bisinger finished three seconds behind to post a sixth-place showing. Jason Santucci and Joe Daniels pladed ninth and 10th, respectively, with times of 27:40 and 27:43.
Monmouth continues its schedule on Saturday, October 28 as the Hawks travel to New Britain, Conn., to participate in the 2000 Northeast Conference Championships.
