MONMOUTH HARRIERS COMPETE AT PRESTIGIOUS PAUL SHORT RUN

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University’s men’s cross country squad finished in 12th place in the 36-team field at the 27th Paul Short Run in Lehigh, Pa., on Saturday afternoon. It was the highest finish ever for the Hawks at the prestigious event. The women’s squad placed 19th in a 34-team race

Monmouth’s men’s top-5 had an average time of 26:09, the second fastest in school history, was paced by freshman Brian Hoffman (Eatontown, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) who finished in 51st place with a time of 25:42. His time set a Monmouth school record for the fastest time by a freshman on a 5-mile course.

The next Hawk to cross the finish line for Monmouth was Jason Santucci (Westminster, Md./Westminster). The Hawk sophomore covered the course in a time of 26:09 to finish in 83rd place. Joe Daniels (Essex, England/Essex County) was just one second behind Santucci and finished in 85th place. Freshman Nick Pellegrino (Morganville, N.J/Marlboro) and junior Brad Bisinger (Southampton, N.J./Lenape) finished in 97th and 98th place, respectively with identical clockings of 26:21.

The women’s team also had its best finish ever at the event. The women were paced by Tara Losito (Elmont, N.Y./Kellenburg Memorial) who set a school record for the fastest time on any 6,000-meter course. She finished in a time of 22:47 to finish in 70th place. Taryn Phelps (Skanateales, N.Y./Skanateales) finished in 100th place with a time of 23:17.

This year’s Paul Short Run featured three nationally ranked men’s teams (Georgetown, Michigan State, Villanova) and two nationally ranked women’s teams (Georgetown and Villanova).
