LAW NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICA BY COLLEGIATE BASEBALL

West Long Branch, N.J. – Jason Law (Linwood, N.J.) was named to the First Team Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball team as picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper.  Law joins the first team with Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Year in RHP Mark Prior of Southern California.  The 18-man first team, chosen by performance, features 11 conference players or pitchers of the year.

Law, the Northeast Conference Player of the Year, finished the season with a .436 batting average, which ranks him 9th nationally.  His 16 home runs set a new Monmouth single-season record and his 89 hits tied a conference record as well.

The junior outfielder led the league in average, slugging percentage (.770), on base percentage (.504), hits (89), RBI (67), total bases (157), and his 20 doubles ranked second.

Law led the Hawks to a 29-24 overall record, and 17-5 conference mark, which earned Monmouth the South Division Championship and number one seed in the conference tournament.  In 2001, Monmouth played in its fourth consecutive tournament title game, but fell to UMBC 4-1 in the final game.

Law becomes the first Monmouth and Northeast Conference baseball player to be named to the Louisville Slugger Division I First Team All-America.
