MONMOUTH FALLS TO RIDER, 5-2
LAWRENCEVILLE--Senior Matt Dyl (Laurel Spring/Triton Regional) allowed just one earned run to gain his first victory of the season, beating Monmouth Tuesday.
Dyl struck out five and walked four, allowing six hits in seven and one-third innings.
Freshman Scott Rich (Hamilton Square/Steinert) hit an RBI double in the third inning to give Rider a 1-0 lead, and Rich scored on a single by junior Rich Brooks (Hamilton/Steinert).
Sophomore Dante Paolillo (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) doubled in the sixth inning and scored on an error, before sophomore Bryan Merrigan (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) hit an RBI single, his second hit of the game, to give Rider a 5-1 lead.
Freshman Eric Weiner (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) pitched the final inning and two-thirds for his second save of the season.
For Monmouth (4-12), Mike Kelly had three of Monmouth's eight hits, and Greg Landis had two. Jim Carone pitch a complete eight innings for the Hawks, dropping his first game of the year.
Monmouth will host LaSalle for a 3:00 p.m. game Wednesday.
