Writing Services invites experienced writers, as faculty members and professionals from the work place, to assist Monmouth University students, employees, and alumni on a part-time basis.
Monmouth University faculty members enjoy working in Writing Services because it enables them to step away from the classroom for a moment and interact with individual students on a more personal level. Additionally, Faculty Writing Assistants expand their knowledge of writing pedagogy and practice while viewing colleagues’ assignments, resources, and methodologies. By tutoring students, faculty Writing Assistants can observe and evaluate the effectiveness of various faculty writing assignments and commentary which often leads to an infusion of ideas and revitalized creativity in their own teaching.
Professional Writing Assistants are able to take a break from the workplace and give something back to the leaders of tomorrow by sharing their professional writing experience and knowledge with their students. In turn, tutoring sessions serve to strengthen interpersonal skills, reinforce the basics of writing, and provide excellent instructional experience for the Writing Assistant. Initially, all professional Writing Assistants must engage in a training program prior to initial tutoring.
