Student Advising Responsibilities
What responsibilities do you have in the advising process? You will get the most out of our advising system by being an active participant and by doing the following:
- Know the name, location, and office hours of your Advisor.
- Meet with your Advisor and stay in frequent contact. Get to know one another! Discuss college experiences and any problems you are having. ASK QUESTIONS! If your advisor’s hours conflict with your schedule, please tell a secretary immediately.
- Check your Monmouth University WebMail (e-mail) account regularly! Many offices and faculty members on campus use this as their main form of communication.
- Respond as soon as possible to all e-mails, letters, or phone calls from your advisor, instructors, professional counselors, department chairs, or deans. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please call to cancel and/or reschedule.
- Be on time for advising and counseling appointments.
- Be prepared for academic advising appointments by becoming familiar with your curriculum and sequence charts, University requirements, and important deadlines.
- Keep a folder or file with all forms, grade reports, notices, receipts, and other important information relevant to your academic career. Bring it with you to all appointments.
- Ask for referrals if you need help.
- Seek advice on possible schedule changes, withdrawals, changes in your major, transferring, taking courses over the summer, and other issues before making decisions.
- Learn about the special services and resources available on campus.
- Read The Outlook weekly and watch for special information about advising and important deadlines.
- Attend workshops and other relevant programs. Bring a friend!
- Check your academic audit, available through your WebAdvisor account, each semester.
- Read the Monmouth University Undergraduate Catalog, the Student Handbook, and other official Monmouth University publications in order to learn important Monmouth University rules and regulations.
