    • Monmouth has developed a Master of Science in Physician Assistant program; it will be one of only three PA programs in New Jersey. The program begins Fall 2014.

    • Monmouth University earned Certification in Education for Public Relations (CEPR) by the Public Relations Society of America for its exceptional Public Relations Program. Monmouth University is one of 30 colleges in the world to earn this distinction.
    • Dr. Gary Lewandowski, associate professor and chair of MU's Psychology Department, was selected for inclusion in The Princeton Review's Best 300 Professors (2012).
    • The Monmouth University Polling Institute has garnered recognition for its national polls. Institute Director Patrick Murray was ranked number 30 on PolitickerNJ's 2013 Power List of the 100 most influential people in New Jersey politics.

    • The University's proximity to New York City has enabled our students to intern at such places as Merrill Lynch, NHL Headquarters, Cosmopolitan magazine, Entertainment Tonight, Hugo Boss, MTV, NBC Sports, Saturday Night Live, and The Colbert Report.
    • With Monmouth less than a mile from the Atlantic Ocean, students majoring in marine and environmental biology and policy have ample opportunities to gain hands-on experience.
    • Nearby Asbury Park is well-known for its live music and historic venues like The Stone Pony. Just a few minutes from campus, students can become immersed in the arts and learn even more by taking advantage of music internship opportunities.
    • Through the Shadow Lawn Stage, an Actors' Equity theater on campus, students in music and theatre arts can work side-by-side with Equity actors, learn the details of professional production, and earn points toward Equity membership.

    COMMUNITY SERVICE RECOGNITION

    • "Alternative Spring Break"—a service project in which Monmouth students traveled to Guatemala during their Spring Break to help build a school and educate local children—has been so popular that there is a waiting list to participate.
    • Monmouth University has been named to the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The Honor Roll recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities.
    • For the fourteenth consecutive year, Monmouth University students voluntarily will "give back" to the community during the "Big Event" on October 26, 2013. It is the single largest student-sponsored community service project organized by the Student Government Association. Each year about 400 students help out at local food pantries, clean beaches, help neighbors move furniture or clean a yard, paint rooms, landscape, and more.

    STUDENT-ATHLETE HONORS

    • Monmouth University and Northeast Conference Hall of Famer Christie Rampone '97 captained the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USNT) to its third straight Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Summer Games in London. A member of the USNT since 1997, she became the first American woman to play in four Olympic Games for the United States.
    • Monmouth boasts fourteen former Hawks now playing professionally in their respective sports, including All-Pro Dallas Cowboy Miles Austin, Seattle Sounders' goalkeeper Bryan Meredith, and Boston Red Sox first-round draft pick Pat Light.
    • Monmouth is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), with the exception of football which is a member of the Big South conference. MU athletics boasts 21 Division I athletic teams, including Men's Lacrosse which began in the Spring of 2014.
    • MU student-athletes routinely excel in the classroom, with 194 earning Dean's List honors and 222 athletes earning NEC Academic Honor Roll distinction in 2011–12.
    • In the 2011–12 season, six Monmouth squads captured Northeast Conference titles.
    • During the 2011–12 academic year, almost 3,000 male and female students participated in intramural activities.

    • Students have developed a series of viable products and services through their involvement in Monmouth's Center for Entrepreneurship. Past projects have included Nanina's pasta sauce, Stiletto perfume, and Soup D'Shore, a local soup kitchen.
    • Biology students participate in field-based experience in marine and environmental science through the University's Urban Coast Institute, a Center of Distinction, and through Monmouth's affiliation with institutions such as the Cape Eleuthera Institute in the Bahamas.
    • With support from gifts and proceeds from Annual Ocean Champion awards luncheon, UCI supports summer research projects for Monmouth students. The research grants are given in memory of Heidi Lynn Sculthorpe and are awarded based on the students' achievements and research proposals. In 2012, three grants were awarded to students to study environmental impact on coastal dunes and water quality in the Barnegat Bay.
