On March 27, 2013, just after midnight, a Monmouth University student parked his car on Second Ave. in Long Branch, across the street from the Pier Village Apartments. As he walked to the corner of Chelsea Ave. and Ocean Blvd., two cars pulled up and parked next to where he was walking. One car was a silver colored SUV and one car was a blue VW Jetta. Both had New Jersey license plates. Six to seven high school age athletic-looking black males got out of the vehicles and approached the student. One of the subjects punched the student knocking him to the ground. The student's cell phone fell from his hand onto the ground as he fell. One of the assailants picked up the phone. All of the assailants then returned to their vehicles and fled the scene, traveling south on Ocean Blvd.
