Tutoring and Writing Services

Located in the Center for Student Success, Tutoring and Writing Services provides free, personalized academic assistance to all students at the University. Students may be referred by faculty members or advisors, or they may come voluntarily.
In one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, students are able to review course material, develop skills, and ask questions in a friendly, informal environment. These collaborative sessions are intended to guide and motivate students to achieve their academic goals.
Tutoring and Writing Services offers three individual services:
Students work closely with peer and faculty tutors to better understand course material and learn effective study skills. These content-specific tutoring sessions are available in most academic disciplines. In addition, faculty master tutors offer workshops covering strategies for college success, such as organization, time management, note-taking, listening skills, textbook reading strategies, and test-taking preparation.
In one-on-one appointments, students receive help with all stages of the writing process, from the initial draft through the final steps of editing and proofreading. Peer, faculty, and professional writing assistants are available to review essays and assignments from any class. In addition, they regularly hold workshops on grammar and punctuation skills, writing strategies, and documentation styles.
This peer-facilitated program helps students succeed in traditionally difficult courses. Through regularly scheduled, informal review sessions, students collaborate with their classmates to practice study strategies and master the information required by the target course. Each session is guided by an SI leader, who has previous experience in the course and is able to clarify important concepts.
