Monmouth University Officials Visit China

Monmouth University officials visited China in September to further the University’s commitment to developing joint-partnerships in China. Thomas Pearson, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and Jiacun Wang, chair of the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, attended Nanjing University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) 60th anniversary celebration and met with several Chinese university presidents during the trip. In addition, Provost Pearson made a presentation on private education to over 250 undergraduate and graduate students and met with parents of Chinese students currently enrolled at Monmouth University.

NUST is one of the top 50 research universities in China and one of Monmouth University’s active partners. Monmouth University hosts NUST students and visiting scholars on campus. Professor Wang, who received his Ph.D. from NUST and worked there until 1997, has helped develop relationships with NUST and other Chinese universities, including Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications (XUPT) and Xi’an University of Science and Technology (XUST).

Provost Pearson said: “Forging relationships with foreign universities helps Monmouth students extend their awareness of the world on the diverse heritage of human thought, behavior, and creativity. We are honored to be partnering with colleagues at NUST in support of student and faculty collaboration.”
