MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY STUDENT SINGS ON THE KATIE COURIC SHOW

Monmouth University student Meredith Calcagno from Matawan, New Jersey, was chosen to sing on the Katie Couric show as part of a segment about getting an opportunity to fulfill your dreams and seize the moment. She was able to work with Megan Hilty from the musical shows “Smash” and “Wicked” who “coached” her in prep for her performance. The show will air on Thursday, April 11, at 3 p.m.

Meredith believed she was merely getting an opportunity to “audition” for the show in response to information she had sent into the show, but she had actually been selected to perform based on recordings and videos the producer had seen and heard.

Meredith is a Music Education major at Monmouth University. She is anticipating graduating with honors in the Fall of 2013. As a young child, Meredith was exposed to many musical influences from oldies, to Motown, to ballads, classic rock, and pop. She has performed on stage since childhood, all through high school, and presently with an orchestra doing private affairs. Meredith plans to pursue a career in teaching music and also aspires to perform.
