“I want to thank the students of Monmouth University and an unusually supportive Board of Trustees for allowing Linda and me to serve this University for nearly a decade so far. It has been rewarding beyond description,” said President Gaffney. “Monmouth has been served well over the last 30 years by presidents who rotate approximately every ten years. Now, while the University is thriving, is the best time to search for a new leader and then introduce new ideas.”

His visionary and unifying leadership has taken Monmouth University to the next level. Today, Monmouth University is recognized as one of the best universities in the nation,” stated Robert B. Monmouth University established Centers of Distinction including the Urban Coast Institute, Rapid Response Institute, Monmouth University Polling Institute, Kislak Real Estate Institute, Center for the Arts, and the Global Understanding Institute. He oversaw NCAA reaccreditation and reaffirmation of Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Student athletes won on the field and off the field. The Hawks won 38 NEC championships and many teams were recognized for top academic performance.

Monmouth University facilities have undergone major improvements including the construction of a new residence hall; new art building; addition and renovations to Monmouth University Library, Edison Science Building and Howard Hall; renovations of Woods Theatre and upgrades to the Pollak Theatre and Gallery; and the addition of lights to the soccer field.

Today, Monmouth University is a leader in sustainability. President Gaffney oversaw the installation of Monmouth University’s solar energy system which saves the University approximately $200,000 per year and promotes environmental sustainability.

Sculthorpe commented: “We congratulate President Gaffney on his upcoming retirement in July 2013. The Board also extends its gratitude to his wife Linda for her service and friendship. The Gaffneys will continue to be valuable members of the Monmouth University Community.”
