LECTURE ON CHILDREN AND CULTS AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY ON MARCH 20

Monmouth University’s School of Social Work will present a lecture on children and cults on March 20 At 4:30 p.m. in Wilson Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required by contacting the School of Social Work at 732-571-3543.

The presentation will include a lecture by keynote speaker Dana Wehle and Monmouth University graduate student Ashley Allen as well as a panel discussion with a group of adults who were born and/or raised in cults. Discussion will focus on how children often experience violations of their human rights when living in a cult. In addition, many children can suffer from long-term psychological distress.

Keynote Speaker Dana Wehle, LCSW, MFA., is a certified psychoanalyst in private practice in New York City and administrative supervisor at the Cult Clinic of Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services(JBFCS). She has presented on cults at Rutgers, the William Alanson White Institute, International Cultic Studies Association conferences and elsewhere. She guest edited and contributed to the special issue of Cultic Studies Review titled, “The Last Draw – Cults and Creativity.”

Speaker and Coordinator Ashley Allen is currently finishing her master’s degree in social work at Monmouth University and is a volunteer at the Cult Clinic of JBFCS.
