Monmouth University Is the First to Offer This Degree Program in New Jersey.
Beginning in September 2006, Monmouth University will offer the Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and International Business. Monmouth University is the first university in New Jersey to offer this degree program.
A recent
Wall Street Journal article mentioned that American manufacturers considered Spanish to be “the most important language to study for international business.”
The B.A. in Spanish and International Business is designed for students who are looking to enter the international business world, as well as for students of Spanish who want to apply their knowledge of the language and the Hispanic cultures to other areas. The degree program allows students to combine courses in two in-demand disciplines within the traditional 128 credit curriculum.
By taking the required courses of Spanish language, Hispanic cultures and civilizations, and advanced business Spanish, students will enhance their Spanish language skills for business purposes—speaking, listening, comprehension, reading, writing, and translation/interpretation.
In addition, students will:
- master the terminology and techniques of commercial Spanish;
- be aware of the particular cultural traits of doing business in a Spanish-speaking country;
- be able to successfully conduct business in Spanish either in the United States or abroad; and
- learn geographic literacy and cultural understanding of the Spanish-speaking world.
Graduates of the program will have a language proficiency in Spanish that will allow them to conduct business in both English and Spanish. This will enhance their value not only for businesses operating worldwide but also for businesses that cater to the increasing Hispanic-American market within the United States.
The B.A. in Spanish and International Business is an interdisciplinary program jointly offered by the Department of Foreign Language Studies of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Business Administration.
