ABC educates on alcohol serving regs

West Long Branch – Prevention First and the Monmouth University Office of Substance Awareness sponsored a NJ Alcohol Beverage Control agency program on Monday at the university campus.
The workshop’s purpose was to educate owners, managers, servers and sellers at alcohol-providing establishments about strategies to avoid illegally selling alcohol to underage youth or intoxicated patrons. The event was free and open to the public. Several business owners, employees, and guests were in attendance.
AB Deputy Attorney General Richard, assisted by Diane Weiss, an ABC licensing expert, gar a presentation and review of rules and regulations applicable to sale of alcohol, in addition to specific guidelines at wine tasting events. The program allowed for questions and discussion. Several owners reported they were interested in using the information in training and discussion with their employees. Information included how to protect your business and liquor license, and how to identify fake ids. Nasca said the burden of proof of checking identification was up to the business employees. He reminded all that it is always okay to refuse service if doubt exists.
