
Award Descriptions
Publicity Ribbons
- Registered student clubs or organizations can submit hard copies of all their best self-created advertisements (posters, cut-outs, large signs, etc.) to the Office of Student Activities, 2nd Floor of the Student Center. This category cannot be submitted online.
- Each advertisement must be submitted with the following information attached on a typed piece of paper: Club name, Name of the person(s) who created the advertisement, a contact name, phone number, and e-mail address.
- Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place will be awarded at the S.O.A.R. Awards and submitted advertisements will be displayed.
- Limit of three entries per club.
Diversity Award
The club must:
- Be a registered student club or organization.
- Be devoted to bringing together the Monmouth University community to understand and celebrate differences.
- Plan, promote, and/or participate in events that feature diversity and are designed to increase one’s awareness level of diversity.
Civic Engagement Award
The club must:
- Be a registered student club or organization.
- Contribute to the quality of life outside of Monmouth University and have worked to improve connections with the community-at-large.
- Demonstrate how their group has provided assistance to the community (i.e. via philanthropy, community service hours, volunteering, donating money, raising awareness, etc.).
Collaboration
The club must:
- Be a student registered club or organization.
- Have worked with and formed a positive relationship with anoter registered student club or organization through programs and/or publicity.
- Know that this award is NOT for student clubs or organizations that collaborate with faculty, committees, departments, etc. It is only for the collaboration of two or more student registered clubs or organizations.
- Demonstrate why they should win this award and explain if there was a sharing of finances, work-load, etc.
- Clarify each group’s role within the application.
Outstanding Organization
The club must:
- Be a registered student club/organization.
- Be outstanding in some way: maybe by hosting a spectacular program, increasing membership 100%, or by setting new goals and achieving them.
- Know that two separate awards will be decided by judges for this category, the Most Outstanding Small Organization and the Most Outstanding Large Organization.
Excellence in Advising
- This award will go to a current student club/organization advisor.
- The advisor should demonstrate an impact on the club and its leadership, a commitment to involvement in the organization, and a willingness to meet the club and student needs.
- Staff members in the Office of Student Activities and Student Center Operations are not eligible for this award.
Outstanding Member
- This award goes to a member who is always there for their organization. This could be a general member or a member of the e-board.
- They demostrate exlemplary dedication to the club. This could be through leadership, volunteering at events, ability to guide other club members' into positive endeavors, etc.
- Candidate should demonstrate an impact on the club and a high level of involvement.
Event/ Program of the Year
- This award is open to students or registered student clubs/organizations that have sponsored a program for the entire campus community between March 1, 2012 and March 1, 2013.
- It will be judged on attendance, use of budget, promotion, and overall effectiveness.
- The program has to meet and embrace the need, appeal, and culture of the Monmouth community.
- Two separate awards will be decided by the judges from the applications: one for The Best Event of the Year and one for The Best Program of the Year.
