The Senate and Running for Office
Make a difference;
if you won’t who will?
For the past 70 years, SGA has been an active member of the Monmouth University community. The Senate was there when Monmouth was a two-year junior college and holding classes in the old Long Branch High School. It was there when the college moved to the Shadow Lawn campus (its current location), and it was there when we became a University in the spring of 1995. Over the course of the past 7 decades, SGA in one form or another has always been there to speak on behalf of the Monmouth student community.
One of the defining factors that has been a key to SGA’s success has been it Senators. This continues to be the heart and soul of what makes SGA so relevant to the Monmouth University community.
Composition of the Senate
SGA is one of the larger organizations on campus, and it represents every academic year a student would spend at Monmouth. Furthermore, SGA also represents our commuter population and our students-at-large. Here is a breakdown of all of the voting seats on the Senate:
- 6 Freshmen Senators (Selected as part of the FreshStart Program)
- 6 Sophomore Senators
- 6 Junior Senators
- 6 Senior Senators
- 4 Senators-At-Large (open to both undergraduate and graduate students)
- 2 Commuter Senators (open to both undergraduate and graduate students)
