Why I chose Monmouth University and what benefits the program has offered me:
I was drawn to Monmouth's human rights based social work program. Monmouth University offers the only MSW in international community development. Coming from a Jesuit undergraduate school, the values of service to others and promotion of justice that the MSW program at Monmouth promotes are intrinsic to my personal morals and worldview. The program has given me the opportunity to take charge of my education and advocate for myself in creating a legacy at Monmouth. Currently, I am learning and researching in Guatemala City and paving the way for future MSW students' academic journeys.
My academic interests:
I am currently conducting focus groups with Guatemalan homeless youth in the capital city. The idea is to create a safe forum for youths to voice their opinions on the policies, programs, and services which affect their daily living. I specialize in Latin American studies and am interested using participatory action research to influence social welfare policy development.
My accomplishments and my future after Monmouth University:
Monmouth has been an ideal academic environment for me to grow as an adult learner. I have always had an interest in pursuing higher education and have full intentions to attain a doctoral degree in social welfare. I would also like to work in international development consulting.
