Master of Social Work
The Master of Social Work program at Monmouth University is specifically human rights based. It grounds students with a deep understanding of human diversity and society, and thoroughly prepares them for careers as dedicated social workers who strive toward improving the lives of vulnerable individuals, families, and communities— locally, nationally, and globally.
Social workers with master’s degrees gain access to multiple opportunities, including the benefits of entering a licensed profession as either social workers (LSW) or as clinical social workers (LCSW).
The central mission of the School of Social Work at Monmouth University is to prepare its graduates for advanced professional practice. The educational focus of the school is to prepare social work practitioners with a commitment to excellence and to the knowledge, skills, goals, values, and ethics of the social work profession.
THE RIGHT PROGRAM AT THE RIGHT TIME
Monmouth University’s Master of Social Work program enables those with liberal arts degrees in various backgrounds, such as psychology, anthropology, or sociology, to put their knowledge of ethnic diversity and human behavior to practical use. This is a two-year, 60-credit (regular standing) program consisting of 1,000 hours of fieldwork.
Students with a baccalaureate degree in social work from a college or university accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) can apply for advanced standing. Advanced standing students complete the MSW in one year by taking 30 credits and fulfilling the second-year field practicum of 500 hours in a specialized area of concentration.
Students interested in our part-time program can complete the 60-credit program in four years and the advanced standing program in two years.
Candidates can choose from one of two concentrations in the program: Clinical Practice with Families and Children or International and Community Development. Both concentrations balance classroom and fieldwork experiences so that students develop a broad understanding of human behavior and social policy as well as gain extensive practical experience.
FULLY ACCREDITED MSW PROGRAM
Monmouth University is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education for our Master of Social Work degree program.
