Endorsements
Bilingual/Bicultural
12 Credits
The Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement program intends to address the NJ State requirement for bilingual/bicultural endorsement. The five domains (linguistics, language acquisition, developing literacy skills for the second language learner, methods of teaching content in bilingual education, and theory and practice of teaching bilingual education) required by the NJ State will be addressed in a manner that utilizes collaborative effort from the expertise of different schools and departments. An addition of one course focusing on theory and practice of teaching bilingual education to the exiting ESL endorsement program will fulfill the State requirement for a bilingual/ bicultural endorsement program.
General Structure of the Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement Program
Requirements:
- A degree in a K-12 school curriculum content area;
- Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing, or a Standard NJ instructional certificate, or a Certificate of Eligibility with a teaching position in an ESL/Bilingual setting.
- A passing score for nationally recognized text of oral and written proficiency in both English and the target language;
- The completion of the following course requirement as an added part of an initial certification program:
- Language and Linguistics: EN 563 (3.0 credits)
- Theories and Practice of ESL Instruction I: ED583 (3.0 credits)
- Theories and Practice of ESL Instruction II: ED584 (3.0 credits)
- Bilingual Education: Theories and Practices: ED586 (3.0 credits)
Chinese
24 Credits
The Chinese subject endorsement is a 24 credit non-degree program that leads to the New Jersey Teacher of Chinese Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS). It is for candidates with a bachelor degree who possess 30 credits or more in the Chinese language and culture. The program may be completed within 8 to 12 months for full-time students or longer period for part-time students.

American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
Early Childhood (P-3)
13 Credits
The Early Childhood program is a nationally recognized online program designed to provide expertise in creating developmentally appropriate assessment and instruction in literacy, language development, numeracy, and content areas, designing curriculum and collaborating with families and colleagues in preschool through grade 3 settings. All courses are offered online.
You must be a certified teacher or hold a NJ Certificate of Eligibility (CE) P-3 and be employed in a P-3 position requiring certification.

NAEYC Early Childhood Professional Standards
English as Second Language (ESL)
18 Credits
The ESL Endorsement program is an 18 credit certification program designed for both the students who apply directly to MAT programs at Monmouth University and certified teaching practitioners who intend to seek such an endorsement as a stand-alone program. The program prepares teachers for both school or community-based ESL programs and K-12 classrooms with mainstreamed ESL students, and addresses both the NJ State requirement for ESL endorsement and the TESOL/NCATE Program Standards.
You must be a certified teacher or hold a NJ Certificate of Eligibility (CE) ESL, and be employed in an ESL position requiring certification.

TESOL Standards for English as a Second Language Professionals
Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC)
21 Credits
The Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) works in a school setting and provides prevention programming for mental health issues and provides intervention services for students identified as experiencing mental health issues that interfere with successful academic performance. The SAC coordinates the implementation of programs and events offered in the district that are related to alcohol and drug prevention as well as programs and classroom presentations on suicide, physical/sexual abuse, sexual harassment, bullying, and other related topics.
You must hold a standard instructional certificate, or a school psychologist, school social worker, school counselor, director of school counseling services, or school nurse endorsement, or a valid Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor credential issued by the NJ Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee of the Marriage and Family Board, or a valid Certified Prevention Specialist credential issued by the Addiction Professionals Certification Board of NJ or hold a master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD)
21 Credits
The Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement program is a CEC standards based program for teachers who wish to enhance their skills in working effectively with diverse populations, families, colleagues, and the community. Comprehensive theoretical and practical experiences are provided to ensure that candidates are well prepared to address the learning, language, and social needs of a diverse population of students from preschool to high school. Courses in the program are aligned with state and national standards. Some online and hybrid coursework available.
You must hold a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), or a Provisional or Standard NJ instructional certificate.

Post-Master’s Endorsements
Director of School Counseling Services
9 Credits
The Director of School Counseling Services Endorsement is a 9 credit post-master’s program intended for certified school counselors who want to supervise school counseling services in K-12 settings. Courses in the program are aligned with state and national standards.
You must hold a NJ school counselor or student personnel services certificate or an equivalent out-of-state certificate. Upon completion, you must provide documentation evidencing completion of three years of successful experience as a school counselor in grades P-12 to be eligible for the endorsement.

Learning Disabilities
Teacher-Consultant (LDTC)
24 Credits
The Post-Master's Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant Endorsement program prepares experienced teachers to specialize in assessing and instructing students with special needs and to serve as learning consultants on child study teams. A main focus of the program is collaboration with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and families. Field experiences are provided throughout the program.
Upon completion, you must provide documentation evidencing completion of three years of successful teaching experience under a Standard NJ or out-of-state instructional certificate to be eligible for the endorsement.

CEC Special Education Professional Standards
Supervisor
12 Credits
The Post-Master's Supervisor Endorsement program is intended for graduate students who possess a master’s degree and want to supervise teachers in K-12 educational settings. It is aligned with national administrator standards and capitalizes on a strong educational vision, collaboration with teachers, families, and the wider community, and professional development planning.
Upon completion, you must provide documentation evidencing three years of successful, full-time teaching and/or educational services experience under a Standard NJ instructional or educational services certificate or its out-of-state equivalent. Teaching and/or educational services experience completed in a NJ public school must have been under an appropriate NJ certificate.

Certificates
Autism
15 Credits
This 100% online certification program is recommended for teachers, related service providers, and Child Study Team members or other professionals who wish to develop or extend their understanding of effective educational practices for working with individuals with ASD.
This program will help those professionals develop a clear understanding of the characteristics of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as to learn effective, research-based teaching strategies, social, communicative, and behavioral interventions, and valuable supports for use within the educational environment.
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
18 Credits
The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certificate program is an 18 credit program that provides a TESOL certificate for candidates who are not interested in a K-12 state certification. TESOL candidates are often interested in teaching abroad or as an ESL instructor at the adult level in a variety of settings (Accelerated Option available).
