Special Services Academy

The School of Education at Monmouth University is pleased to announce the formation of their Special Services Academy for special service directors, school psychologists, learning consultants, school social workers, and speech specialists.

MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Special Services Academy is to create an opportunity for dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences for Directors of Special Services, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultants, School Psychologists, School Social Workers, and Speech Language Specialists. Through collaboration with university administrators and faculty, the academy will provide professional learning communities that offer growth opportunities for members through sessions which focus on promoting reflective practice and positively impacting student and teacher learning. A network of support and resources for members will be established for developing new experiences.

RECENT WORKSHOPS

Special Services’ Academy

October 13, 2011

On Thursday, October 13, 2011, Monmouth University’s School of Education hosted its Special Services’ Academy in the Samuel Hays Magill Commons. Fifty special services professionals from local area schools attended the academy which had the theme of “Pre-Referral Intervention/Strategies.” Deborah Heuer, Adjunct Professor of Special Education at Monmouth, spoke at the event. Following her presentation, a panel of special education professors from Monmouth facilitated an open forum to discuss the topics of the day. Included on the panel were Mary Brennan, Stacy Lauderdale, and Carol McArthur-Amedeo. The session concluded with a question and discussion session. Overall, the Special Services’ Academy was a great success in bringing together the ideas and perspectives of multiple local special services professionals.
