“Write Out Loud” Literacy Camp 2010

The Write Out Loud! Literacy Camp was held during July 2010 for the third consecutive year at Monmouth University. The exciting week-long event is coordinated by Dr. Laurel Chehayl. Candidates who are currently enrolled in the ED319/ED529 Secondary Content Literacy course were paired with nearly 40 campers from Raritan High School in Hazlet and Keyport High School, as well as the greater Monmouth University community. They spent four camp sessions engaging in the writing process to generate a final literacy-based project. The candidates and campers took part in the final “Publication!” event. This summative evening was also attended by the campers’ parents and other public school and university stakeholders. All in all, it was an exciting and interesting event that brought literacy into the limelight!
