“Write Out Loud” Literacy Camp 2009

Over the summer of 2009, Dr. Laurel Chehayl's Secondary Content Literacy courses hosted students from Raritan High School in Hazlet Township and the Monmouth University community for the second annual "Write Out Loud! Literacy Camp." In this five-day camp, students in grades 7-12 worked one-on-one with teacher candidates to create a textual project. The projects were very diverse, and included essays, original songs, poetry, and even a board game! All of the projects were presented on the final night of camp at the Publication event. This event was well attended by both the students' parents, Superintendent William George from Hazlet Township Public Schools, and Dean Lynn Romeo from Monmouth University's School of Education.
