“Write Out Loud” Literacy Camp 2011
On four sultry summer evenings this past July, 21 students, grades 8 – 12, from Union Avenue Middle School and Raritan High School in Hazlet worked collaboratively with Monmouth University students in the 4th Annual Write Out Loud! Literacy Camp. Monmouth students enrolled in ED319/ED529 actively engaged the campers in the writing process to generate a final literacy-based project. The “Publication” event was the culmination of these varied but meaningful instructional activities and was attended by parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters as well as administrators from the Hazlet Public Schools. The auditorium in Wilson Hall provided the perfect backdrop for this exciting night of celebrating the students’ written work. The camp was coordinated by Prof. Kathleen Rapp with encouragement from Drs. Lynn Romeo and Laurel Chehayl and with assistance from Administrative Assistant Cindy Bell.
