The Gertrude Murphy Endowed Scholarship

The Gertrude Murphy Endowed Scholarship was established in 2013 to aid students pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in the Leon Hess Business School. This scholarship honors the commitment, dedication, and service exhibited by "Gert" since she arrived at Monmouth University in 1982. Gertrude is currently the assistant to the Dean in the business school and the administrative coordinator of the MBA program.
Amount and Terms of Scholarship
The funds available to be awarded each year to the scholarship recipient(s) shall be determined by the revenue generated and shall be subject to the Monmouth University Board of Trustees' spending policy. The scholarship may be applied toward payment of tuition and/or support for books, fees, and other educational expenses.

Funding
Additional contributions to the scholarship fund may be made. Funds for this scholarship shall be administered in accordance with the University's scholarship policy.

Criteria and Selection
Selection of recipient(s) will be made by the Monmouth University Financial Aid Office based on the following criteria:
- The recipient will be enrolled as an MBA student who has successfully completed the first six credits of the MBA program with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- The recipient should demonstrate financial need.
- The recipient must maintain a grade point average of 3.0.
Recipients may be full- or part-time students. The scholarship is renewable as long as the above criteria continue to be met.

Gertrude "Gert" Murphy was born in Jersey City and has lived in Middletown for the past 40 years. She has six children of her own but hundreds of Monmouth children.
Gert has blessed Monmouth University with her presence for 30 years. In 1982, she began working for Admission. After one year, she changed jobs at Monmouth to become the administrative coordinator for the MBA program.
