Welcome to the Department of Philosophy, Religion, and Interdisciplinary Studies

Monmouth University initiated the Department of Philosophy, Religion, and Interdisciplinary Studies in January 2008.

Faculty in the department have developed a minor in Religious Studies that will be available beginning Fall 2009, in addition to the existing minor in Philosophy and majors in Interdisciplinary Studies.

The mission and objectives of this new department are as follows:

• To strengthen the teaching of philosophy and religion at Monmouth University in support of its mission as a comprehensive teaching institution;
• To allow students to explore different philosophical and religious traditions as a means of facilitating their personal and intellectual growth;
• To offer courses in support of philosophy and religion, general education, and in support of majors that require philosophy and religion;
• To propose and offer majors in Philosophy and Religious Studies, and a minor in Religious Studies, and to strengthen the existing Philosophy minor.
